Reynold A Tucker
(August 14, 1936 - May 19, 2011)
On May 19, 2011, God in His infinite wisdom dispatched an angel to take our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Reynold Armstead Tucker, to his heavenly home.
Reynold was born in Dinwiddie County, Va., on Aug. 14, 1936, to the late Irvin S. and Malelia B. Tucker. He was predeceased by brother, Phillip L. Tucker. At an early age, Reynold accepted Christ and was baptized at Little Bethel Baptist Church. He attended church regularly until his health declined. Reynold loved to sing and this was shown through his membership in the LBBC Senior Chior and the Male Chorus. One of his favorite songs was "His Eye Is On The Sparrow."
Reynold attended Dinwiddie Training School and graduated in 1953. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1959. He enrolled in Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) where he earned a certificate in carpentry in 1961 and a certificate in masonry in 1963. He was a master bricklayer and a carpenter who took great pride in all of his projects. He met and befriended many people over the years while working for The Progress-Index and the Richmond Times Dispatch.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Tucker; two daughters, Chevone T. Clanton (Bruce) of Dinwiddie, Allison R. Tucker of Washington, D.C.; one son, Reynold M. Tucker of Midlothian, Va.; two granddaughters, Nichelle I. Clanton and Sa'Myah N. Tucker; two brothers, Harold I. Tucker (Bettie) and Gerald L. Tucker (Annie), all of Stony Creek, Va.; one sister, Meredith T. Stith (Fred) of Waverly, Va.; one uncle, William Tucker of Stony Creek, Va.; two aunts, Eunice Baker and Virginia Garri,s both of Norfolk, Va.; sister-in-law, Ruth M. Pride (George) of Stony Creek and Bessie M. Evans (Moses) of Petersburg, Va.; and family friend, Ericka Jackson. He was affectionately called "Uncle Reynold" by his nieces and nephews: Melvin, Muriel (William), Felita, Regina, Harold Jr. (Cassie), Shawn (Nakeeta), Cory (Christina), Eric (Jan), Dion (Chavaughn), Dettrick (Karma), Annette (Mark), Roderick (Darkeesha), Kieth and Kevin (Jennifer), who is also his godson. He also leaves 19 great-nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins from this area and the Tidewater area. Numerous supportive friend will also mourn his loss, including Mr. Glover Pegram.
The funeral services for Mr Tucker will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Little Bethel Baptist Church, Stony Creek, Va.; Pastor David L. Banks Sr. officiating. The body will be placed in church one hour prior to service and all family members are asked to assemble at the residence of Mr. Tucker to proceed to church by noon. Interment will follow services at the Tucker Family Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
